As I mentioned in the abstract, this entire project is really about taking risks and I wanted to establish that theme right from the get-go. In this case, the song is not only about individuality and being confident with who you are, it’s also about taking all that and putting it all out there even though you inherently put yourself at risk of being judged and labelled by others. As noted by Abraham Maslow in his “hierarchy of needs”, all human beings have a basic desire to be valued and accepted and this song is more about self-acceptance than anything else. It’s really the only thing that matters.
